Balan Wonderworld is an upcoming platform game developed by Balan Company and published by Square Enix.
In Xbox’s recent showcase, we could see the game looks to be the kind of surreal, magical adventure, which brings 90’s-style platforming and magic back to current systems.
The game is described as “3D action platformer with musical flair”, being directed by Yuji Naka with art direction by Naoto Ohshima, co-creators of Sonic the Hedgehog series, as well as 1996’s Nights into Dreams.
It is the first game by the studio, formed as a subsidiary of Square Enix under Naka. With two of Sega’s most prolific contributors in the team, the game is expected to be an ambitious move from the company.
Players will take control of the two characters Leo Craig and Emma Cole to follow the clown Balan through the Wonderworld.
There are over 80 different costumes with their own abilities to traverse through a dozen areas, formed by the struggles of various people caught in the crossfire of their own emotions.
Balan Wonderworld is scheduled for release in early 2021, available on Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
