Tablets and Chromebooks sales fly while desktop PC drop in 2020

In order to cope with the need for online education during the epidemic, many people have purchased their new computers this year. This led to a rebound in computer sales despite the decline in other industries.

According to the global computer sales report for the third quarter of 2020 conducted by Canalys, a market analysis firm, not all categories of the computer industry have enjoyed that same growth.

The computer market has grown by 22.7% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2020, but the desktop computer category has fallen by 32%, the notebook computer category has increased by 30%, and the tablet category has increased by 42%.

Under the breakdown, desktop workstations and small desk computers have been reduced by 27% and 33% respectively, while Chromebooks and detachable tablet laptops have increased by 122% and 88%, and ultra-thin and transformable laptops have increased by 57% and 27% respectively.

The year-on-year growth rate of tablets is staggering. Apple still has the market lead, while Samsung has the largest 80% growth rate on the market.

Overall, Chromebook has the largest growth rate among all the categories. HP has obtained 34.1%, followed by Lenovo’s 18.9%. It is believed that the amazing growth rate of Chromebook’s sales are related to the increase of education needs with a cheaper price tag.
